More information :

The Municipal Art Gallery of Castiglion Fiorentino is housed in the restored rooms of the ancient church of S. Angelo al Cassero, a building of medieval foundation, the adjacent sacristy and the nuns' choir on the upper floor.

It contains a collection of paintings characterized by their high quality, true masterpieces and a group of splendid examples of medieval and Renaissance goldsmithery.

Among the paintings, noteworthy are the large tempera Cross on wood dating back to around the 1370s-1380s, the Stigmata of Saint Francis by Bartolomeo della Gatta, the Saint Francis by Margarito d'Arezzo, the luminous Madonna and Child by Taddeo Gaddi, a pupil of Giotto and some works by Giovanni di Paolo and Jacopo del Sellaio.

For goldsmiths, the thirteenth-century stauroteca, the Holy Cross, made by French goldsmiths with gilded silver filigree and the reliquary bust of St. Ursula, engraved and chiseled with enamels and precious stones of Rhenish manufacture from the fourteenth century. To these are added precious reliquaries, monstrances with enamels and other goldsmiths of great manufacturing quality.

From the Saletta della Torre, obtained at the top of what was the Clock Tower, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Val di Chio.
