The districts are: Terziere di Porta Fiorentina (orange-green), Rione di Porta Romana (yellow-red) and Rione Cassero (white-blue). In 2025, therefore, the date will be Sunday, June 15.
Sunday begins with Mass at the Church of the Madonna delle Grazie del Rivaio, to which the Palio is dedicated. In front of the Church, the blessing of the horses and jockeys by the parish priest follows.
In the afternoon, from around 3 pm, the evocative Corteggio Storico takes place, that is, the parade of the figures of the districts in medieval-Renaissance clothes accompanied by groups of musicians and flag-wavers. The groups meet in Piazza del Municipio and then cross the historic center until they reach Piazzale Garibaldi.
Here, at 6:45 pm, a firecracker is fired. It is the signal that the districts must prepare. In fact, at 7 pm, the horses and jockeys take to the track under the orders of the Mossiere. And the countdown begins until the right "move" that gives life to the Palio. After the race, with the awarding of the Palio to the winning Rione, everyone takes to the square to celebrate.
