Are you looking for a quiet place close to nature, perhaps after a nice refreshing walk or a bike ride? Here is a tip for you.

Castiglion Fiorentino (Ar) also has a hermitage, a place of serenity where people can reconcile with the world, nature, and themselves. It is called Eremo di San Lorenzo alla Montanina.

It's ideal in the summer (when one is in the mood for coolness and tranquility) and charming in the winter. The hermitage is located at the Montanina, 5 kilometers from Castiglion Fiorentino.

It can be reached through the Val di Chio and up towards the border with Umbria.

The Church of San Lorenzo was probably built before the year 1000. Later, a small group of buildings was raised around it. The parish of San Lorenzo no longer exists since 1987 because it was incorporated into the Parrish church of Chio.

The church, however, has recently been restored and the village renovated, enabling it to welcome those who come here on a spiritual retreat.

As you can see from the photos, it is a beautiful place, suitable for contemplation and reflection or even just silence.

For some years now, with the
lighting of the cross, the hermitage of San Lorenzo alla Montanina has become more and more evocative and a point of attraction for the faithful, tourists, cyclists, and lovers of nature and walking.

In short, for those who travel the roads of the beautiful Val Di Chio.

At the hermitage, every 10 August, people celebrate the feast of San Lorenzo, one of the seven deacons of Rome.

The" Guide" of the hermitage is Father Giuseppe, who has set up tables and benches in the greenery to welcome those who wish to stay in peace, even for lunch.
